The one thing Jamali Maddix wouldn't do on Never Mind The Buzzcocks

...and which pop icon he has an unlikely beef with

comedyWhen you’re a panel show regular you have to be prepared to do almost anything for a gag.

But Jamali Maddix has revealed the one thing he refused to do on the new series of Never Mind The Buzzcocks.

‘They tried to get me in a Britney wig,’ he says. ‘ That wasn’t happening!

‘I don’t want to wear a wig. I don’t want to be a meme for the rest of my life. You just do one thing in it, and it becomes a GIF forever.

‘They offered me a grand to do it and I said, "No." Cash, as well. But you say that and then the tax man’s going to ask for some of it. You know what I mean? My agent’s then going to come knocking and I’m left with £300 and now I’m a laughing stock. No, man. You keep it!’

Though, of course, there’s nothing to stop someone mocking up what the comic MIGHT look like in a Britney wig…

Speaking to promote the return of the show to Sky on October 16, Maddix also reveals he had an unlikely beef with Sir Rod Stewart, explaining: ‘I did a corporate gig with him and he was a piece of shit!’

But then he backtracked a bit saying: ‘No, he was all right. It was just heckling. He was just drunk and heckling.

‘I did give him some shit back but he was on home turf. It was a corporate gig, I wasn’t there for artistic reasons, so I was just like, "Okay. All right." I don’t really like his music anyway. I never had that, "It’s Rod Stewart!" I recognised who it was but I don’t give a shit.’

Host Greg Davies confirmed the bad blood but said it was a ‘very strange’ beef to have.

He said producers have asked Sir Rod to come on the programme saying: ‘If a Rod Stewart / Jamali Maddix beef can play out on telly, then I’ll probably retire because I’ll just know that life’s not going to get any better.’
