Bill Burr plays drums with The Pretenders

'He nailed it,' says Chrissie Hynde

comedyBill Burr played drums with The Pretenders during his show in London this week.

The American comic invited the Brass In Pocket hitmakers to join him on stage at the Hammersmith Apollo, after his stand-up performance, where they played three metal numbers.

Frontwoman Chrissie Hynde said it was ‘a surprise out of left field’ to be asked to ‘do a few tunes’ with the comic.

Writing on Facebook, she added: ‘I was thinking… He can tell jokes, but can jokes play drums? The answer is - yes they can! Bill nailed it. After the show, I was thinking maybe Bill missed his calling.’

The band played  Ace Of Spades by Motörhead, What Do You Do for Money Honey by AC/DC and Breaking the Law by Judas Priest.

The first song had special resonance for Hynde as she saw Motörhead in the same venue 40 years ago when it was known as  the Hammersmith Odeon.
