Rhod Gilbert and Ellis James could make this wall of fame
Rhod Gilbert and Elis James could be immortalised in a prominent mural in their home town if a venue gets its way.
The Cwrw bar in Carmarthen has lodged plans to paint artwork on the side of the building to celebrate locals who have contributed to arts and culture.
Both comics have played the venue, as have music acts such as Gorky's Zygotic Mynci and Nic Turner of space rock band Hawkwind.
Gilbert was also involved in the Save the Parrot campaign to rescue the venue under its previous name 13 years ago.
Cwrw owner, Michael Hilton, says in the planning application: ‘The plan is to create public art that will commemorate the people and events that have contributed to the town's evolution and the building's links while also enhancing the aesthetic appeal of Carmarthen and fostering a more vibrant and promising future for its residents.
‘This mural will pay tribute to the success of individuals from Carmarthen who have a strong personal connection to the building or hail from Carmarthenshire.’
James was born in Haverfordwest but has said: ‘I consider Carmarthen my home town. It’s where I spent my formative teenage years, it gave me the accent I still have and Carmarthenshire is where my parents and extended family are all from.’
As reported by In Your Area, the project has already secured £6,000 of funding from improvement scheme Carmarthen Bid to help it become a reality.
