Laughter makes the world – and kaiten conveyor belts - go round
The Edinburgh branch of YO! Sushi has rigged up its conveyor belt to respond to laughter.
The Princes Street restaurant is hosting open-mic comedy during the Fringe, and has installed the technology so that the more people are laughing, the faster the belt goes.
Comedian A&E doctor, and TikTokker Maddy Lucy Dann launched the stunt.
She said: ‘Nothing quite beats the energy you get in a room when the crowd is enjoying your set but how many comedians can say they’ve helped to power an actual sushi belt with that energy – it was like magic! It's been great to be a part of the Edinburgh Festival Fringe fun.’
At 87 metres, the kaiten belt at the Edinburgh branch is the second longest of any YO! restaurant in Britain.
The laughter-detecting technology will stay in place until Thursday.
The chain also shared a batch of sushi-related puns to tie in with the Fringe.
