Gervais is immortalised... on a garbage truck

Among his many accolades, Ricky Gervais has won two Emmys, two Baftas and a Rose d'Or, pictured. But this could be his greatest honour yet…

A food bin lorry in his home town of Reading has been named Ricky Gerwaste in his honour.

It was chosen after the borough council ran a competition on its website suggesting new names for six of the trucks.

The After Life creator expressed his delight on Twitter, posting a picture of the truck and saying: ‘Is there any greater honour than your hometown naming a garbage truck after you?’

Others speculated which other  celebrities from the Berkshire town may get similarly honoured, with Kate Binslet the frontrunner.
