Comic shuts down online fraudster pretending to be her

comedyA would-be fraudster has been posing as Sarah Millican online to try to con her fans out of money.

The comedian has now managed to get the fake Instagram account shut down after being alerted to the scam.

Posting on her real account, thesarahmillican, the comic said: 'Hi Smashers, just a heads up that someone is pretending to be me on Instagram and sending private messages to fans asking for money amongst other things. Please note that my instagram account is verified with a blue tick. Any others are fakes. Much love Sarah x'

After Millican reported the scam, the bogus account official_sarahmillican was closed this morning.

This is not the first time the comic, who is currently touring Australia, has been the victim of an internet con.

In 2012, one of her publicity photos was used for a fake dating profile - which stretched credibility given that The Sarah Millican Television Programme was on BBC Two at the time.
