What a nerve!

Britain's Got Talent is about 10 years late asking Shappi Khorsandi to compete

comedyBy most measures, Shappi Khorsandi has achieved a lot in her comedy career – a decade of touring shows, making several Live At The Apollo appearances, writing two books and presenting her own Radio 4 series and countless more besides.

Yet all this apparently means nothing to the producers of Britain's Got Talent, who invited her to audition for the ITV talent show alongside unknown performers.

She revealed the slight on Twitter, posting: 'So, Britain’s Got Talent’s casting team got in touch to ask if I’d like to apply to be a contestant.

'Should I do it? Omg! I could end up doing three Live At The Apollos! Or having 12 sell-out Edinburgh shows! And maybe even touring all over the country for ten years!'

Here revelation prompted fellow comic Jenny Eclair to recall another TV offer she found easy to refuse: 'I was once approached by Live At The Apollo to see if I fancied being in the audience when it recorded - oh to have had my face televised.'

And one follower commented: 'This is up there with that music website telling Annie Lennox she had some talent and she could do really well with their help.'
