Mark Watson gig cancelled after thieves steal the lead from venue roof

Mark Watson has had to cancel his gig tonight – after thieves stole the lead from the venue’s roof.

The comic had been due to play The Platform in Morecambe, Lancashire, as part of his MW tour of places sharing his initials.

But on Tuesday night staff noticed the theft during a downpour on Tuesday – when water began to pour through the roof.

The venue confirmed that Watson’s show has been cancelled due to emergency repairs – and said ticket-holders can get refunds from the box office.

Watson himself tweeted: ‘To use the oldest phrase in the book: my show's off because thieves have stolen the lead from the roof of the theatre and the rain's come in… We’ll find a new date when the crime rate drops.’
