Free briefing on tackling abuse in stand-up

From the Live Comedy Association

The Live Comedy Association is hosting an online briefing on tackling bullying, harassment and discriminatory behaviour on the stand-up circuit.

It  will focus on  how standards to confront such behaviour  are being applied across the creative world and will be led by Niyi Akeju, pictured, of the Creative Industries Independent Standards Authority

It takes place on May 7 at 2pm and is open to LCA members only – although membership is free. Details are at livecomedyassociation.co.uk/events.

Meanwhile, the fund that the Live Comedy Association set up to support people working in grassroots live comedy in the UK has raised more than £30,000.

Around 100 individuals have donated, along with comedy venues including Komedia in Bath and Brighton, Leicester Square Theatre, the Frog & Bucket in Manchester, Big Fish Comedy Club in Cumbria and the People's Comedy in Bristol and London.

A fundraising show at Komedia Bath featuring John Bishop raised just over £12,000. Venue manager Adrian Boreham said the live comedy industry was 'under real pressure with rising costs, no government support and no formal recognition as an art form.’
