Stand-up comes to a South London architectural gem

A long weekend of stand-up is coming to one of London’s hidden architectural gems.

The Crystal Palace Subway was built n the style of a Byzantine crypt in 1865 to connect rail passengers to the Crystal Palace Great Exhibition building i.

It was one of the few structures to survive after the Palace was lost to fire in 1936, was used as an air raid shelter during the Second World War, and was restored in 2024.

The distinctive vaulted space will be hosting a comedy festival over the bank holiday weekend, May 21 to 24, with 11 shows featuring the likes of  Daniel Kitson, Kerry Godliman and Sam Nicoresti

Click here for the schedule, programmed with Blue Book Artist Management, who said the event would ‘shine another spotlight on South London as a destination for standout cultural events’.
