Two more weeks for the sitcom's final chapter

I’m Sorry, Prime Minister has extended its West End run by two weeks.

The show – which stars Griff Rhys Jones as ex-Prime Minister Jim Hacker – will now run at the Apollo Theatre from January 30 to May 9.

The final chapter of Yes, Minister –written and directed by  Jonathan Lynn – the play sees Hacker and civil servant Sir Humphrey Appleby, as played by Clive Francis, in their old age facing up to life in their retirement.

The plot has Hacker as the master of  an Oxford college who finds himself cancelled by the college committee. So he calls upon Sir Humphrey to help him outmanoeuvre the hostile students, the fellows, ‘and reality itself’.

The production is co-directed by Michael Gyngell started at The Barn Theatre in Cirencester in 2023, and previously ran at the  Theatre Royal Bath and Cambridge Arts Theatre.

Created by Lynn  and Antony Jay, Yes Minister  ran for three three seven-episode series, on BBC2 from 1980 to 1984. A sequel, Yes, Prime Minister, ran for 16 episodes from 1986 to 1988, both starring Paul Eddington and Nigel Hawthorne.  It was previously revived as a stage play in  2010.
