Manchester's new act challenge comes to a climax on Monday

The finalists have been announced for this year’s Beat the Frog World Series new act competition, held at the Frog and Bucket in Manchester.

Taking part in the final on Monday are Tabish Akbar, Sharifa Butterfly, Alfie Dundas, Shannon Griffiths, Donatas Kvesely, Murph, Ciara O'Connor, Bilal Rachid, Alex Redman and Maxine Wade.

The gong-style show has been running for more than 20 years, with comedians trying to complete their full five minute set without three nominated audience members raising a red card. Those who survive are subject to a ‘clap off’ to see who survives.

Previous winners include Dan Tiernan, Brennan Reece, Sam Gore  and last year’s champion,Peter Jones – pictured above with runner-up Daniel McCreanor and panel choice pick Qasim Akhter.

The final – in which comics do not run the risk of being ‘croaked off’ but are allowed to complete their set – will be compered by Hayley Ellis.
