Scottish comedy stalwart Ron Bain dies at 79
Ron Bain, who appeared in a swathe of Scottish TV comedies in the 1980s has died aged 79.
The actor had a parallel career as a director, behind the camera on shows such as Rikki Fulton’s Scotch And Wry, Norman Lovett’s I, Lovett and the Karen Dunbar Show.
Grangemouth-born Bain was trained at the Royal Scottish Academy of Music and Drama and first worked with Fulton in an acclaimed production of the Moliere play The Miser in 1971, starting their professional partnership.
A stalwart of BBC Scotland's Comedy Unit shows of the 1980s he appeared on sketch shows including A Kick Up The 80s, Laugh I Almost Paid My Licence Fee and Naked Video.
BBC Scotland executive Luke McCullough said Bain ‘was an important part of much-loved BBC Scotland comedies… Our thoughts are with his family and friends, and all who worked with him across his career.’
Taggart actor Colin McCredie wrote on X: ‘A dear friend for over 40 years. A brilliant actor & director. We’ll miss you Ron Bain.'
