Could this be your calling?

Alternative bingo hall seeks comedians

Alternative bingo hall Dabber’s is looking for comedians who could call the numbers at its London games.

The venue has launched a talent hunt for its Next Top Bingo Caller, which comes with a £1,000 prize and a 12-month contract.

Previous guest callers have included comics Aurie Styla, Marcel Lucont, Olaf Falafel, Tony Law, Tom Houghton, Eleanor Conway. Dabber’s scouts also regularly seek out new names at the Edinburgh Fringe.

The competition will involve a series of heats at Dabber’s Bingo Hall in Houndsditch, East London, hosted by BBC New Comedy Award finalist Sikisa Bostwick.

Entrants are not required to be professional performers but have the skill to hold the attention of a room full of people and ‘reinvent bingo calling and make it your own’.

The 2019 finalists were character comedian Jerry Bakewell, singer Natasha Strange, burlesque performer Vixen Victorie and the winner, comedian and drag performer Kate Butch, pictured.

Hopefuls, who must be over 21, should send a video of less than a minute introducing themselves and calling out some bingo lingo.

Entries should be sent to talent@dabbers.bingo before midnight on Friday March 11. You can follow the competition on Twitter via @dabbersbingo.
