Fringe fundraiser nears £200,000

With one more virtual gig this week

A series of online gigs has raised almost £200,000 for those hit by the cancellation of the Edinburgh Fringe.

Streaming of the AJ Bell Fringe On A Friday gigs have raised more than £18,000 – with one more show to come this week.

Shona McCarthy, chief executive of the Edinburgh Festival Fringe Society said: ‘It’s been genuinely incredible to see how much support there is out there for Fringe venues and artists. If we can raise £200,000 to help creatives return in 2021, it would be such a boost to the sector, to the festival, and collectively, to our spirits’.

The final edition of the digital fundraiser will be hosted by drag queen Courtney Act  and feature comics Craig Hill,  Stiff & Kitsch, Megan Shandley and Helen Duff plus cabaret stars including  Briefs and Le Gateau Chocolat.
