Jason Manford praised for his 'selfless' charity work in lockdown

Honour from the High Sheriff of Greater Manchester

Jason Manford has been given a 'special recognition award' for helping the community during the coronavirus crisis.

The comic has been volunteering with refugee support charity Rainbow Haven and the Stockport Volunteer Car Scheme during lockdown.

High Sheriff of Greater Manchester Eamonn O'Neal, who made the award, thanked Manford for his 'selfless involvement', adding that in addition to his charity work the comedian 'helped people wit their mental health and wellbeing by providing ad-hoc entertainment, raising the spirits of lonely people.'

Writing on social media, Manford said: 'Really chuffed to have received this certificate in the post today.

'Thanks to whoever nominated me. It’s been a privilege to do my bit and a joy to meet so many different people in and around my community.'
