Richard Herd had a five-decade screen career

Richard Herd, a veteran character actor who appeared in 11 episodes of Seinfeld, has died at the age of 87.

He played Mr Wilhem, George Costanza's boss at the New York Yankees, in the 1990s sitcom.

His other credits in a near-50-year screen career included Star Trek: Voyager, Get Out and All The President's Men.

CNN reports that Herd died of cancer-related causes on Tuesday at his Los Angeles home, surrounded by  his family.
