John Oliver's team win a Writers' Guild award

Other gongs for JoJo Rabbit, The Simpsons, Barry and more

John Oliver's writing crew has won a top US accolade.

The team behind HBO's Last Week Tonight yesterday scooped the Writers' Guild Of America award form best comedy/variety talk series.

Bill Hader's HBO series Barry was named best comedy series and the Thanksgiving Of Horror episode of The Simpsons named best animation.

The pilot episode of Netflix's Dead To Me, created by Liz Feldman  and starring Christina Applegate and Linda Cardellini as grieving women who bond during therapy,  was named best episodic comedy.

Samantha Bees' Full Frontal episode Not The White House Correspondents Dinner Part 2 won the comedy/variety special category and Succession, written by Peep Show's Jesse Armstrong and 11 co-writers, was named best drama series.

In the movie categories the black comedy Jojo Rabbit, written by its director Taika Waititi, was named best adapted screenplay. Parasie won best original screenplay.
