Fans make donations after his show

Rhod Gilbert’s fans have raised more than £25,000 for Alzheimer’s research.

The comic urged audiences to donate to charity at the end of his Book Of John tour shows, during which he spoke of his mother having the condition.

Now he has revealed that a total of £26,639 in loose change was thrown into the buckets rattled by volunteers for The Alzheimer's Society over the course of last year.

The comic said: ‘The tour is rolling on into 2020, with shows all over the UK, so hopefully we can raise a load more on top. A huge heartfelt thanks to all those who have contributed, from me, and from the charity.’

Gilbert has also set up a JustGiving page, which has added a few hundred more pounds to the total.
