Hot on the heels of his best newcomer nomination at the Edinburgh Fringe

Freddie Meredith has joined the cast of Saturday Night Live UK.

The news comes after the character comedian was nominated for best newcomer in the Edinburgh Comedy Awards with his Fringe debut Need A Light?

On his new role, he said: ‘It’s the most iconic comedy show and it looks like so much fun. It will undoubtedly inform everything I do for the rest of my career and I can’t wait for the experience. ‘

The comic, based in Shepherd’s Bush, West London,  was originally an actor who went to drama school, but he says: ‘Over time, I found myself increasingly drawn to comedy and started doing stand‑up alongside my acting work, and that naturally led me into making short sketches online.’

His previous TV credits include Such Brave Girls, A Whole Lifetime With Jamie Demetriou and Live At The Moth Club

He joins the returning SNL UK ensemble: Hammed Animashaun, Ayoade Bamgboye, Larry Dean, Celeste Dring, George Fouracres, Ania Magliano, Annabel Marlow, Al Nash, Jack Shep, Emma Sidi and Paddy Young.

The show returns to Sky One at 10pm on Saturday, with Jeff Goldblum as guest host and CMAT as the musical guest. It will run for six episodes before returning for more in early 2010.
