Crowdfunder launched in support

Stand-up Mike Newall has suffered a brain haemorrhage while on holiday in Wales.

Promoter Peter Vincent has set up a crowdfunder to help support him while he recovers.

He writes: ‘It’s obviously a serious condition, but he’s in good hands and we’re all wishing him a speedy recovery. Mike’s going to be out of action and unable to work for a good while, so lets take some of the financial pressure off him and his family. Anything you can put in will help.’

And he couldn’t help but joke: ‘There is, however, some encouraging news. After various scans, Mike has confirmed that they’ve found 17 brain cells. Here’s hoping he’ll talk a bit faster after all this is over.

‘Seriously though, let’s get behind Mike, his family and show him how much the  comedy community cares.’

The campaign has already raised more than £10,000 with contributions from the likes of Chris Ramsey, Sarah Millican, John Bishop and Manford's Comedy Club.

Born in Stockport and based in Manchester, Newall performed made his Edinburgh Fringe debut in 2010, with the first of five solo shows. A circuit stalwart, he appeared on Britain's Got Talent in 2020.
