Starring Big Mood’s Lydia West

The BBC is to air He Had It Coming, an Australian comedy-drama starring Big Mood’s Lydia West.

In the eight-part series, she plays Elise, an awkward British scholarship student who become entangled in a murder mystery when their spontaneous feminist activism is co-opted by a killer.

Liu Bordizzo plays fashion influencer Barbara, who forms an unlikely alliance with Elsie.  After a series of mishaps with men, both decide to take a stand  and while drunk on night they  deface a statue of the university’s male founder in the university’s quadrangle.

When the girls wake to discover that the university's star athlete (Cody Simpson) has been murdered and displayed at the foot of the statue they must urgently erase all ties to the crime.

 With Detective Shepherd (Liv Hewson) following the leads, Barbara and Elise need to find the real culprit amid rising gender tensions on campus and a growing body count.

Nick Lee, head of BBC programme acquisition, says: ‘He Had it Coming is a fun, pacey campus whodunnit with a vibrant poke into gender politics. It’s deliciously dark, comic and has a very bingeable vibe.’

 He Had It Coming will be available on BBC iPlayer from Saturday  and begins on BBC Three at 11.15pm Friday 15 August.

It was created and written by Gretel Vella and Craig Anderson (with writers Emme Hoy, Belinda King, Nick Coyle and Hannah Samuel.

It originally aired on Stan down under in November.

The streamer’s chief content officer Cailah Scobie said: ‘He Had It Coming is a clever and sharp exploration of gender politics led by an extraordinary cast in this vacuum-sealed murder mystery.’
