Brighton Fringe awards for Police Cops and 'Terry Wogan'

Comedies hailed

Spoof blockbuster Police Cops and the anarchic cult show Late Night With Terry Wogan have won comedy awards at the Brighton Fringe.

Police Cops – Zachary Hunt, Nathan Parkinson and Tom Roe – scooped the audience award for best comedy for the tenth-anniversary revival of their show at SpiegelGardens.

The trio will be performing that show, and its two sequels, at Soho Theatre in London next week, with the original then heading to the Edinburgh Fringe in August.

Meanwhile the Wogan show – which stars comic Benjamin Alborough as a reanimated version of the late chat show star – picked up the award for alternative comedy.

The show features comedians in character as celebrities, with the Brighton performance – also at  SpiegelGardens – featuring  Joz Norris as Patrick Stewart, Luke Rollason as Quentin Tarantino, Nikola McMurtrie as RayGun, Hudson Hughes as Wes Streeting, Ben Goldsmith as Teddy Sheringham, Aidan Pittman as Jamie Oliver, William Stone as Oliver Reed and Rosalie Minnitt as Nancy Reagan.

Stone and Pittman accepted the award, in character, on the show’s behalf.

As part of the award, the show gets financial support and dates at both the Brighton Komedia and The Nest in Chichester, which jointly sponsored the category. Lil Wenker’s Boy King was named runner-up in this category.

There were 386 comedy shows in the Brighton Fringe this year. A full list of 2026 award winners can be found here.
