U&Dave to celebrate the dull

Series picked up following a pilot with Dara O Brian

U&Dave has picked up a series celebrating the dullest things in the UK, following a pilot hosted by Dara Ó Briain.

It is not clear whether the Mock The Week host will also front the televised version, now called Celebrate The Mundane and set to run for four episodes.

Producers say of the format: ‘Guests from across the country will showcase their seemingly dull, but actually quite interesting, collections, pastimes and passions.

‘Our host and a committee of big-name comics must decide who truly cuts the mild mustard, who is thrilling by mistake, and who earns the ultimate accolade in each episode: the Golden Fleece.’

Ó Briain fronted a test version of the show – originally called Britain's Dullest – in London in March, which featured John Robins as one of the panellists.

The embraces the ethos of the Dull Men’s Club, an international and largely online group celebrating those who seek an uneventful life. When The Times visited a recent meeting they encountered men obsessed with unusual bins  ornamental folly towers and the game of conkers.

Celebrate The Mundane is being made by  Interstellar TV, whose previous credits include Battle In The Box and Question Team, also for Dave.

They have put out an appeal for contributors, with a social media post saying: ‘Are you proudly dull? Do you find joy in the everyday items that other people might find dull? Are you obsessed with the mundane? Or perhaps you're an avid collector of something beautifully ordinary?

‘Interstellar TV is looking for men and women across the UK with proudly mundane passions and hobbies to take part in a major new TV series, celebrating the joy of the everyday.’

Those wanting to take part should email dull@interstellar-tv.com by June 19.

Meanwhile, the show will be recorded at Hornsey Town Hall in Crouch End, London, on July 2 and 3, Free tickets are available from Standing Room Only.
