Matt Berry to be the voice of the Oscars
The Toast of Tinseltown
Matt Berry is to be the voice of this year's Oscars ceremony.
The disembodied voice of the comic actor, who sent up voiceover work so comprehensively in Toast Of London, will be introducing presenters to the stage.
Fans were quick to express their hopes that he will bring his famously peculiar pronunciations to the role.
‘Can’t wait to hear him pronounce Timothee Chalamet. It’s gonna have like 38 syllables’, one Facebook user wrote. ‘I really hope he gets a chance to say "New York Citaaaaaaay",’ said another. While on X another fan wrote: ‘Finally. Some bastard class in this hootsy-tootsy charlatan parade’
What We Do In The Shadows star Berry follows in the footsteps of Nick Offerman and David Alan Grier who have taken the role in the past two years.
This year’s Oscars, the 98th, will be hosted by Conan O'Brien on Sunday night. It will be screened on ITV in the UK, with cinephile Jonathan Ross leading the coverage, which begins with red-carpet arrivals at 10.15pm.
Last year, the ceremony attracted 5million viewers to the broadcaster and its ITVX catch-up service within the first 28 days of broadcast.
It has also been announced that Nikki Glaser will return to host the Golden Globes for a third time next year.
Helen Hoehne, president of the organisation behind the awards, said: ‘We are thrilled to welcome Nikki back to the Golden Globes stage in 2027. Her comedic precision, authenticity and ability to command the room is unmatched, and we can’t wait to see what she has up her sleeve for next year’s show.’
Glaser joked: ‘I’m thrilled to host the Golden Globes for a third time, not only because it’s the greatest gig I’ve ever had, but because my sister has three kids and now we will be equal in the eyes of my parents and the Lord.’
