Recognition for Tim Key and Tom Basden’s movie

Tim Key and Tom Basden’s movie The Ballad Of Wallis Island has been nominated for five British Independent Film awards.

It is up for best film, while the comedians have been nominated for best screenplay and jointly for best debut screenwriters.

They are also nominated in the ‘best joint lead performance' category, with Basden and Adem Ilhan also recognised for best original music.

In The Ballad Of Wallis Island, Baden plays a faded folk musician and Carey Mulligan his former partner, who reluctantly reunite for an eccentric and wealthy  fan – played by Key  – for a private gig on a remote Welsh island. It was directed by James Griffiths and produced by Rupert Majendie.

The 2025 British Independent Film Awards nominees were announced today by stars Ben Hardy and Saura Lightfoot-Leon at One Hundred Shoreditch, London. 

My Father’s Shadow, – a story of two brothers who first come to understand their father at a pivotal moment in both his life and Nigerian history – leads the field with  12 nominations

Other nominees include Jennifer Lawrence, Cillian Murphy, Andrea Riseborough, David Jonsson, Peter Mullan, Brenda Blethyn and Lynne Ramsay.
