Comic 'on the mend' after being pulled from burning car

Eugene Mirman says he’s  ‘on the mend’ after being pulled from a burning car earlier this week.

The comic said he was ‘extraordinarily thankful to the heroic people’ that saved him from the wreckage of his crash at a New Hampshire toll plaza.

The accident was said to have left the 51-year-old comedian   with serious injuries.

He today posted a picture of himself with his hand bandaged and holding a book titled Life Is An Adventure.

In the post, he thanked  ‘friends and family for their well wishes, adding: ‘I am extraordinarily thankful to the heroic people that pulled me from the car and to the warm, kind and talented staff at the hospital that cared for me and got me on the mend!’

He was also back to joking, writing:‘I am thankful beyond words to be here and doing relatively alright, all things considered. I don’t have my phone, so haven’t been online much. I do not recommend my method of decreasing screen-time.

‘If you’re a friend who sent a kind, loving message, you should know that it was hard to not respond with, "I’d love to be on your podcast." I love you all and please take care of yourselves, E.'

Mirman crashed his high-end electric SUV at the toll plaza on Tuesday. New Hampshire’s governor, Kelly Ayotte and her security detail happened to be passing at the time, and a state trooper and two members of the public pulled Mirman out of his burning car through a window

In a statement, Mirman’s agent, Jay Glassner,  subsequently described it as a ‘very scary car accident,’ but added: ‘He is grateful to be on the mend.'

Colonel Mark Hall of New Hampshire state police hailed Mirman’s rescuers as ‘heroic’, saying: ‘Without hesitation, they put themselves in danger to render aid to someone who was in need of it.’

New Hampshire police released images from the scene:
