Angie Le Mar joins her son's sitcom
...playing his mum
Comedy star Angie Le Mar is joining the cast of a new radio 4 sitcom – written by and starring her son Travis Jay.
His show, Rum Punch, is returning to Radio 4 for a full four-part series, next month, following a successful pilot last year.
The semi-autobiographical comedy is set in Lewisham and follows the multi generational Campbells as they struggle to keep their Caribbean restaurant afloat.
Jay plays the lead character, Marley. while Le Mar will play his fictional mother, also called Angie. She takes over from actor Maureen Hibbert, who played the role in the pilot.
Posting on Instagram, Le Mar joked she only agreed to be in his sitcom if he agreed to be her back-up dancer – and included a video to prove it.
Also joining the cast are comics Kyrah Gray and Ninia Benjamin, alongside returning actors Kevin KG Garry, Eddie Nestor and Letitia Hector.
Rum Punch airs on Radio 4 from Thursday November 17 at 6.30pm.
Made by Avalon, the episodes will be recorded in front of an audience on Wednesday this week and Thursday November 6 at Theatre Peckham in South London.
The pilot is still available on BBC Sounds.
