Miles Jupp to front a new satirical podcast
His first hosting gig since The News Quiz
Miles Jupp is to host a new satirical podcast – marking his first return to hosting comedy since leaving BBC’s News Quiz in 2019.
The Moment will be released weekly from October 24, with episodes around ten minutes long to ‘deliver a concentrated burst of jokes about the news’.
He said: ‘Right now, it’s a very difficult climate for satire, what with the disappearance of most such shows from British television screens, and the problems experienced in the US by Stephen Colbert and Jimmy Kimmel, whosoever they may be.
‘Clearly what is required right now is an entitled privately-educated man to blunder onto the airwaves, label various politicians complete bastards and then be abruptly detained by the security services.
‘We wanted to keep it tight, so we’re going for ten minute episodes. They say brevity is the soul of wit. Also, I spoke to a bloke at a garage and he said most of the repair work they do these days is for people who’ve veered off the road listening to The Rest Is History.
‘Really, it’s going to take in all the things I like about audio comedy, which is me reading out a list of rude jokes about men in grey suits, and none of the things I don’t like, which are the bits when anyone else is speaking.’
Jupp – who appeared on last week’s Have I Got News For You – is writing the series with James Kettle, head writer on Channel 4’s Late Night Lycett.
He hosted 12 series of Radio 4’s News Quiz from 2015 to 2019, taking over from Sandi Toksvig.
The Moment With Miles Jupp is produced by Sara Morgan-Beckett and Michael Benwell for Pink Cloud Productions.
