'All British Comedy Explained' in a new podcast

With Abigoliah Schamaun and Tom Salinsky

American comedian Abigoliah Schamaun is to fill in the gaps in her UK comedy history in a new podcast.

In each episode of  All British Comedy Explained writer and producer Tom Salinsky will pick a classic show and explain its background, before watching two episodes together.

Schamaun, who was born in Ohio but spent the last 11 years in the UK said: ‘I'm so excited to start this podcast! It’ll be such a relief when my friends reference a sitcom; I won’t have to just politely nod to cover up the shameful fact I’ve never seen it.’

She said the only British sitcom she’s seen from start to finish is Black Books, which she ‘loved’.

For the first season of the podcast, Salinsky – an improviser who is artistic director of theatre company The Spontaneity Shop – has selected Monty Python’s Flying Circus, The Young Ones, Not Only But Also, The Goon Show, Victoria Wood: as Seen on TV, The Office, The Day Today, and I’m Sorry I Haven't a Clue.

He said: ‘Making people sit and watch my favourite TV show while I interject with fascinating facts is what I do in my spare time anyway. So I’m thrilled to be able to share this odd behaviour with the world.’

A preview episode will drop on October 2, followed by the first full show a week later, then new episodes fortnightly.
