Michael McIntyre and Gavin & Stacey win at the NTAs

A first for comedian's Big Show

Gavin & Stacey won the Ccomedy category at the National Television Awards last night

It beat Brassic, Michael McIntyre's 25th Year Stand-Up Special and Mrs Brown's Boys in the public vote.

Larry Lamb, who accepted the award on behalf of the cast and crew, most of whom joined him were all on stage, said: ‘What a buzz, eh? This has always been a real team effort right from the beginning.’

And he specially praised creators Ruth Jones and James Corden saying ‘they created a family that everyone can belong to forever’.

Meanwhile in The Bruce Forsyth Entertainment Award went to Michael McIntyre's Big Show ahead of fellow nominees, The Graham Norton Show, The Masked Singer and Would I Lie to You?

On accepting the trophy, the comedian said: ‘The Big Show is an amazing show. We’ve been making it for eight series - it is almost like several shows in one’.

‘We’ve waited a while to win this. I’ve sat in the front row many, many times with  my feet on the bottom stair and never won this prize.  This is an excellent turn of events. Come on!’

Elsewhere, the 1% Club, hosted by Lee Mack, won best quiz show and Wallace & Gromit were presented with a special recognition award.

And Gary Lineker ended Ant & Dec's 23-year winning streak by being voted best TV presenter.

The other winners were:
