Ben Stiller makes a documentary about his parents

Jerry Stiller and Anne Meara became comedy stars of the 1960s

Ben Stiller has made a documentary film about his parents Jerry Stiller and Anne Meara.

The pair were big in the 1960s and 1970s with frequent appearances on television variety shows such as The Ed Sullivan Show while  Meara played Veronica Rooney, a cook on Archie Bunker's Place from 1979 to 1982.

Their joint career petered out in the mid-1980s but Stiller saw a late-career resurgence a decade later, playing Frank Costanza on  Seinfeld, and then Arthur Spooner on  The King of Queens.

Their son’s film Stiller & Meara: Nothing is Lost is set to premiere in some cinemas and stream globally on Apple TV+ from October 24.

He said: ‘I feel very fortunate to be partnering once again with the incredible team at Apple TV+, this time on a project that is very personal to me and my family.

‘It’s exciting to finally get to share it with audiences; and a great honour to celebrate my parents, both as I knew them growing up, and as I’ve come to know them in new ways through the making of this film.’

The film is said to explore the couple’s  impact both on popular culture and at home, ‘where the lines between creativity, family, life and art often blurred’.

Apple adds: ‘In the process, Stiller turns the camera on himself and his family to examine Jerry and Anne's enormous influence on their lives, and the generational lessons we all can learn from those we love.’

Ben Stiller is also behind Severance, one of Apple TV+’s biggest hits.
