RTÉ renews 2 Johnnies Late Night Lock In

Seven more episodes for Johnny O’Brien and Johnny McMahon

The 2 Johnnies Late Night Lock In has been renewed for a fourth series by RTÉ2.

The Irish broadcaster is to air seven more 50-minute episodes of Johnny O’Brien and Johnny McMahon’s show, which is shot as live in a genuine rural Irish pub and is a mix of chat-show, games, music and comedy,

Alan Tyler, group head of entertainment and music at RTÉ, said: ‘Late Night Lock In is a brilliantly simple comedy entertainment format fronted by two simply brilliant hosts.

‘It immediately resonated right across platforms and has thoroughly deserved the audiences and awards that have come its way. We are thrilled to be back at the bar for a further series.

Stephen Stewart, managing director of programme-makers  Green Inc, added: ‘The Lock In works because it taps into the massive Irish heartland rural audience who resonate with the 2 Johnnies and enjoy a good night’s craic with them and their guests.

‘We shoot in a real pub with a real crowd, and the TV audiences clearly love the pure fun and energy that the boys bring, which is why the numbers build across the hour. The 2 Johnnies are undoubtedly Ireland’s hottest entertainment talents and this fourth season lets us keep growing the format and audience around them.’

The musical and comedy duo regularly fill stadiums in Ireland and have hosted the country’s number one podcast for several years.

Previous guests on the Late Night Lock In have included Joanne McNally, Iain Stirling and Russell Kane.

Green Inc today also announced had won the contract to make the live Gaelic games-themed entertainment show Up For The Match for RTE, which has been made in-house since the 1990s.
