Official: Scrubs is making a comeback

US networks orders a new series after 15 years away

Hospital comedy Scrubs is coming back to TV, with its original stars.

Zach Braff, Donald Faison and Sarah Chalke have all signed up to reprise their original roles as doctors JD Dorian, Christopher Turk and Elliot Reid.

The new series, which has just been given the green light by America’s ABC network, will be overseen by creator Bill Lawrence with Tim Hobert and Aseem Batra – both of whom were writers on the original series – as show runners.

Lawrence said: ‘Scrubs means so very much to me. So excited for the chance to get the band back together.’

American trade media reports that other original cast members – such as Judy Reyes, who played Carla Espinosa, head nurse and Turk’s girlfriend and then wife – might also return.

Scrubs originally aired from October 2001 to March 2010, reaching a US audience of more than 22million viewers at its peak. The original episodes are streaming on ITVX and Disney+.

The revival will screen sometime during ABC’s 2025-26 season. Its official logline reads: ‘JD and Turk scrub in together for the first time in a long time – medicine has changed, interns have changed, but their bromance has stood the test of time. Characters new and old navigate the waters of Sacred Heart with laughter, heart and some surprises along the way.’
