Dylan Moran makes his Shakespearean debut

Opposite Dame Harriet Walter and directed by Ralph Fiennes

Dylan Moran is to make his debut as a Shakespearean actor, starring stage opposite Dame Harriet Walter.

The comedian is to play Touchstone in a new production of As You Like It, directed by Ralph Fiennes, which plays at the Theatre Royal Bath this summer.

His character is a court jester, offering a commentary on proceedings as well as falling in love with a dim-witted goat girl. The role has previously been played by the likes of Griff Rhys Jones, James Bolam, Alfred Molina on screen and by David Tennant on stage, in 1996.

As well as his stand-up work, Moran has had acting roles in Black Books,  Notting Hill, Shaun of the Dead, The Witcher and Stuck.

In the new production, Dame Harriet Walter plays Jaques, alongside rising star Gloria Obianyo as Rosalind, Casualty star Patrick Robinson as Duke Senior and Duke Frederick and Charlie Rowe, as recently seen in Slow Horses, as Orlando.

It runs at the Theatre Royal Bath from Friday August  15 to Saturday September 6.
