
Edinburgh Fringe adds another 1,564 shows
Festival now boasts 1,205 comedy shows alone
Another 1,564 shows have been aded to the Edinburgh Fringe programme today, adding to the 1,792 shows revealed previously.
Of the total 3,356 shows so far, 1,216 of them are comedy.
Here are some of the highlights from today’s announcements…
- Shedinburgh – the pop-up venue created during lockdown – is back with a 100-seater space with one-off shows from Jayde Adams, Mark Watson, Deborah Frances-White and Ivo Graham. Run by Francesca Moody Productions, the company who staged Fleabag and Baby Reindeer, it will paying financial guarantees to all artists and creatives and cover their travel and accommodation, as well as offering £5,000 grants to three shows to come to the Fringe.
- Oasis may have added more unbearable pressure to accommodation in Edinburgh this Fringe, but The Stand is pandering to fans with an Oasis comedy special called Laugh Forever, the show on August 13 promises ‘1990s nostalgia, hysterical indie insights and rock n roll routines'. Meanwhile Marc Burrows, explores the music, rivalries, and personalities that defined the 1990s scene in The Britpop Hour at Underbelly.
- Former Edinburgh Comedy Award winner Cat Cohen (pictured) unveils the world premiere of her new show Broad Strokes at the Pleasance, while fellow American Patti Harrison returns with an hour of category-defying comedy at the same venue.
- Canadian actress and comedian Caroline Rhea returns to the Fringe to celebrate Gilded Balloon's 40th anniversary.
- Nick Mohammed and Bill Bailey have announced dates at the Edinburgh Playhouse during the Fringe.
- Michelle Wolf will perform new material, following a series of international headline performances, including her infamous appearance at the White House Correspondents' Dinner.
- Adam Riches is reprising his Sean Bean impersonation to read the 15th-Century story Le Morte d’Arthur out loud for an hour for three performances at Monkey Barrel.
- Lady Magic is an exposé on the crap magician’s assistants deal with, created by Natalie Palamides
- Adult Swim contributor Alan Resnick will be doing a full run at Monkey Barrel.
- Tim Key returns to the Pleasance for the first half of the festival.
- Back to the Future is reimagined – but from the perspective of Biff the bully – in Biff to the Future at Assembly.
- Newly announced works in progress will come from Bridget Christie (Monkey Barrel), John Kearns (Monkey Barrel), Rosie Jones (Pleasance), Mark Simmons (Liquid Rooms)
- Assembly George Square will host a one-off tribute show to Tony Slattery at on August 18, with a recording of his Rambling Club podcast. Proceeds go to Mind, the mental health charity.
- 2019 best newcomer nominees Crybabies present a new horror-comedy sketch show, The Scaring, at the Pleasance.
- Jessica Barton’s Dirty Work which best newcomer at last month’s Melbourne International Comedy Festival comes to Underbelly (Review) while fellow nominee Robyn Reynolds brings What Doesn’t Kill You to Assembly. Review.
