America renews Have I Got News For You for a second series

Just as Donald Trump returns to the White House

The American version Have I Got News For You has been recommissioned for a  second season.

Hosted by Roy Wood Jr – along with team captains Amber Ruffin and Michael Ian Black – the show will return early next year as part of CNN’s Saturday primetime lineup.

The news comes as the first,  ten-episode, season comes to an end this weekend, with journalist Kara Swisher and actor and comedian Dave Foley as guests

Amy Entelis, CNN’s executive vice president responsible for the show, said: ‘For its inaugural season, Have I Got News For You has been a welcome and lively extension of the CNN brand, and our viewers continue to show enthusiasm for comic relief on Saturday nights.’

The show is made by British company Hat Trick Productions, where executive producer Jimmy Mulville said: ‘We’re thrilled that Have I Got News For You has made an impact with the CNN audience and can’t wait to come back next year. I think we’ll have plenty of news to poke fun at!’

Donald Trump will be inaugurated as 47th president on January 20.

The announcement of the second series quotes a Telegraph review of the topical show, describing it as ‘cheerfully competent’ and ‘nowhere near the embarrassment it might have been’.

The show airs on BBC Two at 11.05pm on Wednesdays and is available on iPlayer in the UK.
