Comics star in new podcast set behind the scenes at a sports radio station

Lolly Adefope, Fergus Craig, Jessica Fostekew and more

Lolly Adefope, Fergus Craig, Jessica Fostekew and Helen Cripps  are to star in a new comedy podcast written by Rhys James.

Dial F For Football is set behind the scenes at a popular commercial sports radio station, Totalsport FM when it is trying to modernise its output with more diverse talent – to the chagrin of traditional listeners.

Starting on March 27, the show will be directed by comedian Mark G Smith, who co-wrote it, and feature cameos from the likes of  Alan Davies, Ed Gamble, James Acaster, Lou Sanders, Ben Bailey-Smith and Phil Wang.

The synopsis for the show reads: ‘ Battling to make her way in an ultra-masculine environment, Lisa (Adefope) endeavours to prove her worth to the audience and her producer Carla (Fostekew), whilst also dealing with condescending remarks from some of her callers and in-studio guests. Meanwhile, Des (Fergus Craig) realises he has to modernise with the station or face the same consequences as his former partner Pete. ‘

Listeners will hear all the on-air station output as well as the backstage conversations, in the style of The Larry Sanders Show or This Time with Alan Partridge.

Dial F For Football was created and produced by Tayo Popoola and is being made by Keep It Light Media, whose previous hits include Parenting Hell with Rob Beckett and Josh Widdicombe and Wolf & Owl with Romesh Ranganathan and Tom Davis.

Any money you contribute will directly fund more reviews, interviews and features – the sort of in-depth coverage that is increasingly difficult to fund from ever-squeezed advertising income, but which we think the UK’s vibrant comedy scene deserves.
