The Kemps: We're up for making another mockumentary
The Kemps hope to make another mockumentary about their post-Spandau Ballet career.
Brothers Martin and Gary are returning to screens this Christmas with The Kemps: All Gold, a belated follow-up to the cult 2020 hit All True, in which they play heightened versions of themselves.
And in an interview to promote the show, Gary said: ‘We hope to do another one of these if this one does well. We’ve got some strong ideas that we’re batting around.
Martin adds: ‘It’s something I would love to take further. For me, it’s taking two weeks away from real life where you can just laugh your head off, there’s nothing better.’
At a preview screening of the episode at London’s BFI, writer-director Rhys Thomas added: ‘I think we'd always like to do more because it doesn't cost a lot of money to make and if it does well fine. But we like doing it and if people like it, we’ll do more.
‘There’s no shortage of ideas. What’s great about [the Kemps] is because they do music and acting and all the other sides of their careers, there’s a lot they can take the mickey out of – and they're prepared to do that.
‘If you were dealing with another person who was limited in that way, it’d be hard but there's a whole world there between the two of them that we can mine for comedy.’
Gary said that now they knew how they were being portrayed in the comedy – joking ‘I’m the pretentious twat’ – made it easier to think of ideas for future episodes.
