Vikki Stone's adaptation scoops top theatre award

Hey Duggee Live, the CBeebies show which comedian Vikki Stone adapted for the stage, has won the Olivier Award for best family show.

However Liz Kingsman's One Woman Show was edged out by My Neighbour Totoro when it came to taking the best entertainment or comedy title at UK theatre's most prestigious award bash.  The live version of the 1988 Japanese animated fantasy film, which was staged at London's Barbican Theatre, won six categories, including best director for Phelim McDermott.

Stone adapted Hey Duggee, which is aimed at the under-fives, with director Matthew Xia.  Before the ceremony at the Royal Albert Hall on Sunday, she wrote an article saying: 'I think there's a snobbery within the theatre community that [family] shows are not as important, or worthy as their adult-aimed counterparts.

'But in my opinion, these shows are really important, because very often they are someone first theatre experience, and with that comes the opportunity to make new people fall in love with theatre.'

Hey Duggee Live is currently touring around the UK.
