Featuring menopause, tragedy, and winding up in a mental institution

Bridget Christie, Ed Byrne, Ruby Wax and Andy Hamilton have all announced new UK tour dates today.

Christie is to play a new batch of more than 50 dates of her latest show Who Am I? from September to December. The show – her 13th – originally started touring in 2021 and is described as ‘a menopause laugh-a-minute with a confused, furious, sweaty lady who is annoyed by everything’.

Byrne has revealed a new show, Tragedy Plus Time, which is described as ‘mining the most tragic event in his life for laughs’ – although do not go into details of what that incident was.

Wax is to go on tour with I’m Not As Well As I Thought I Was this autumn, a tie-in with her book of the same named based on a series of potentially life-changing journeys she embarked on last year.

She went swimming with humpback whales in the Dominican Republic,; joined a Christian monastery, worked in a refugee camp in Greece and  did a silent 30-day mindfulness retreat in California.

But she said: ‘I wanted to find meaning, peace, happiness - the stuff we’re all chasing. However, after some transcendent experiences, I ended up in a mental institution. Obviously, I didn’t find what I was looking for.’

Tickets go on sale on Monday

Finally, News Quiz and Have I Got News For You regular Hamilton has announced ten ‘evening with…’ events this summer f promising ‘comic reflection, reminiscence and revelation’

Previously this week Gyles Brandreth, impressionist Debra Stephenson, and Twitch streamer TommyInnit also announced tours for 2023.
