Jimmy Carr to host Channel 4 show about free expression
...and can we separate the art from the artist
Jimmy Carr is to host a Channel 4 programme about free expression in art.
As debate rages about so-called ‘cancel culture’, the programme, provisionally titled Art Trouble, will also examine whether we can separate the moral calibre of the artist from heir work.
The broadcaster says the 75-minute programme will be ‘an arts event like no other’, combining stunts, surprises and special guests It will also feature public experiment conducted by well-known artists across Britain.
It is one of a number of commissions announced by Channel 4 today under the banner Truth And Dare which ‘promise to do what Channel 4 was created for: to give voice to the unheard, say the unsayable and show the unseen’.
The line-up includes the revival of Friday Night Live, a Frankie Boyle film about the Monarchy and a Prince Andrew musical from comedian Kieran Hodgson.
The broadcaster’s chief content officer Ian Katz said: ‘This season shows that Channel 4 is still as mischievous, disruptive and distinctive as when it was born 40 years ago.
‘Instead of a nostalgia-thon of highlights from the last four decades, we are celebrating with a collection of irreverent, thought-provoking and hugely entertaining shows that no other broadcaster would air. If we must age, we plan to do it disgracefully.’
