Big Hollywood deal for Brett Goldstein

Comic and Ted Lasso star signs with Warner Bros

Brett Goldstein has signed a major deal with studio giant Warner Bros.

Under the contract, which will run for several years, the comedian and Ted Lasso star will develop, create, and produce new content for the multinational’s TV arm.

Warner Bros Television Group already makes the hit Apple TV+ football comedy on which he plays Roy Kent and serves as a writer and co-executive producer.

Hollywood trade paper Variety reports that the studios won a ‘highly competitive’ bidding race to secure Goldstein’s talents.

Goldstein said: ‘Much like the character Joe Gillis in Sunset Blvd, I’ve always dreamed of having my own parking space at Warners, and it’s extraordinary to see that dream come true

‘I do, however, hope the comparison ends there and I don’t wind up dead in a pool having been shot by an insane older movie star. As long as that doesn’t happen, I’m very excited and extremely honored to be embarking on new and exciting adventures with the excellent brothers* at Warners. (*Not all the people that work there are related. Apparently.)’

The stand-up and host of the Films To Be Buried With podcast won am Emmy for best supporting actor in a comedy last year, and is in the running for Writers Guild, Screen Actors Guild and Critics Choice awards.

He also co-created the anthology series Soulmates for American broadcaster AMC and is writing the upcoming Apple TV+ comedy Shrinking. His other credits include the Ricky Gervais comedy Derek.

Production on the third series of Ted Lasso’s  is set to begin soon.
