Channel 4 special axed over Omicron

Joe Lycett’s live Channel 4 Christmas special has been cancelled because of  the Omcron variant.

Mummy’s Big Christmas Do! was due to air live from Birmingham from 10pm next Wednesday.

But in a statement, the comedian said: ‘Unfortunately due to the progression of the omicron variant I am very sad to announce we have cancelled next week’s Mummy’s Big Christmas Do!  on Channel 4.

‘Live TV involves a huge amount of people. Mummy doesn’t want any of my team at risk!

‘I’m obviously gutted - we had a very fun, loud and colourful show and I hope one day we can do it for you.’

The show had promised  celebrity guests including Lorraine Kelly, John Whaite, Suzi Ruffell, Rosie Jones, Kim Woodburn and Munroe Bergdorf pluys  drag stars Bimini Bon Boulash, Tayce, Baga Chipz and Jodie Harsh.

Channel 4 previously cancelled its National Comedy Awards, which were due to be handed out this Wednesday, because of Covid.
