Comic named for Christmas special

Mel Giedroyc is to take part in the Strictly Come Dancing Christmas special, it has been announced.

The 53-year-old comedian will  be paired with professional Neil Jones for the show.

Giedroyc said: ‘I don’t think I’ve been this excited about Christmas since I got my first guinea-pig from Santa in 1978.’

She will join Fred Sirex from First Dates  The Repair Shop’s Jay Blades – who will be paired with Dianne Buswell and Luba Mushtuk respectively – plus  three more celebrity contestants yet to be announced.

Craig Revel Horwood, Motsi Mabuse, Anton Du Beke, and Shirley Ballas will be judges on the special, which will air on BBC One on Christmas Day.

Giedroyc's participation was announced on Strictly: It Takes Two on BBC Two tonight.
