The BBC has acquired the Australian comedy-drama Bump, about an ambitious teenage girl who has a surprise baby.

It stars Nathalie Morris as overachieving Oly Chalmers-Davis, a student in the suburbs of Sydney whose carefully planned future is thrown into chaos when she collapses in agony. She is stunned to discover she is in labour and the father is not her boyfriend.

Sue Deeks, the BBC’s head of programme acquisition, said: ‘Bump is a funny, quirky, keenly observed dramedy that takes a fresh and frank look at embracing the unexpected.

‘Viewers will really enjoy getting to know Oly and her loving but complicated relationships with family and friends’.

The show was released on the Stan streaming platform down under at the start of the year, and two further series have already been commissioned. Season two is currently in production.

Sally Caplan, from funding body Screen Australia, said: ‘Not only has Bump proven enormously popular with viewers on Stan with its relatable characters and entertaining scripts, it also continues to provide great opportunities for emerging creatives to further their careers.’

The cast also features Claudia Karvan, Angus Sampson, Carlos Sanson Jr, Safia Arain, Ioane Saula, Peter Thurnwald, Ricardo Scheihing-Vasquez  and Paula Garcia.are managing international sales.
