Miranda gets a German accent

Remake for BBC sitcom

This is what Miranda looks like in Germany.

The BBC has just announced that the sitcom is being adapted for audiences there, where it currently has the working title Ruby.

German actress Anna Böger takes the title role, with Camill Jammal playing David, the bistro-owning object of her affections – the character of Gary that Tom Ellis played in the original.

Also pictured is Rosina Kaleab, who plays Ruby’s best friend Simone.

Filming is currently taking place in Cologne and is expected to last until early September.

The comedy, which will air on ZDF Neo at a date yet to be determined, marks the  first commission for BBC Studio’s new German arm.

Philipp Schmid, managing director of BBC Studios Germany said: ‘Miranda Hart’s Miranda is so warm, funny and timeless that we wanted to make a German version from the day we launched our new business here.

‘ We are excited to make it for our German audience and hope they will be just as entertained by Ruby as British audiences were by Miranda.’

This will be the second international version of Miranda, which was previously adapted for  Fox Television in America. That version, entitled Call Me Kat and has recently been renewed for a second series.
