Ghosts spirit away the South Bank Award

But Pin duo miss out on breakthrough award

Ghosts has  won this year’s South Bank Sky Arts Award for comedy.

The BBC One sitcom triumphed over Channel 4 shows Home and Feel Good, from Mae Martin,  which were also nominated.

Alex Owen and Ben Ashenden, the double act known as The Pin, had been shortlisted for the breakthrough award, but it went to playwright Samuel Bailey for his work, Shook.

The duo are currently starring in their West End show, The Comeback.

The awards, now in their 25th year, were presented by Melvyn Bragg at The Savoy hotel in London, with Bridget Christie handing over the comedy prize.

Bragg said: ‘The arts have kept up their reputation for excellence in difficult circumstances. Without question they are world class, as these awards show.’

The ceremony will air on Sky Arts at 9pm on Thursday.
