Comedy Central orders a new female-led panel show

Following the success of Sara Pascoe's Guessable

Comedy Central has commissioned a new female-led panel show in the latest attempt to rebalance the typically male-dominated genre.

The broadcaster says that in Yesterday, Today & The Day Before, ‘a female-led panel of famous comedy faces will offer a fresh and unique take on all that’s happened in the world, poring over topical news, pop culture and funny anecdotes.’

Six hour-long episodes have been.commissioned from  Rumpus Media, whose other productions include The Misadventures Of Romesh Ranganathan, Joe Lycett’s Got Your Back and Rhod Gilbert’s Growing Pains.

However, the presenter and panellists have not yet been announced.

But each episode will feature a guest to ‘inject unpredictability into the discussion and inspire a topic for a section of the show dedicated to them’.

It is one of three panel shows confirmed by Comedy Central today, also including The Complaints Department, based around gripes, and quiz format Fact Off.

Sebastian Cardwell, deputy director of programmes at parent company ViacomCBS Networks UK said. ‘It’s exciting to be further establishing Comedy Central UK as the go-to destination for brilliant British comedy, with new commissions that will fit perfectly within our expanding slate of originals.

'These three new rich and varied formats with top-tier comedic talent at the heart are guaranteed to keep our audiences laughing.’

Today’s news follows Cardwell’s commissioning of a second run of parlour game show Guessable, fronted by Sara Pascoe, pictured. The first series was Comedy Central UK’s biggest new title of 2020.

Emily Hudd is executive producer of Yesterday, Today & The Day Before, with Lucy Topping the series producer.

No broadcast dates have yet been given.
