David Tennant has been nominated for an award for his role in BBC One's Staged – but his opposite number Michael Sheen has missed out.

The former Doctor Who star has made the shortlist for the Broadcasting Press Guild Award for best actor, both for his role in the lockdown comedy, and for playing serial killer Dennis Nilsen in the  ITV drama Des.

Staged is also up for best comedy alongside Friday Night Dinner, Inside No  9, This Country and The Trip.

Inside No 9 creators Reece Shearsmith and Steve Pemberton are also nominated for best writer, alongside James Graham for Quiz, Michaela Coel for I May Destroy You, and the team headed by  Steve McQueen for Small Axe.

Meanwhile, Mortimer & Whitehouse: Gone Fishing and Taskmaster have been nominated for the best entertainment award alongside Big Zuu's Big Eats and Race Across the World.

The winners will be revealed on Friday March 12.
